Russell Wilson finally got to step to the plate at Yankee Stadium.
Eight years after he appeared in a spring training game for the Yankees in Tampa, Wilson, who began 2025 as the Giants’ starting quarterback, got an at-bat in The Bronx for the Savannah Bananas on Sunday against the Party Animals.
The 37-year-old made a surprise appearance during the fifth inning, breaking his bat on a groundout to first.
Wilson was a Rockies fourth-round pick in 2010 and appeared in 93 minor-league games across the 2010 and ’11 seasons.
He left the organization in 2012 to focus on football and was a third-round pick by the Seahawks that year.
After the 2013 season, the Rockies traded his rights to the Rangers, who hosted Wilson during spring training.
The Yankees later acquired Wilson’s rights in 2018.
Wilson became a 10-time Pro Bowler and led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl XLVIII victory over the Broncos 12 years ago at MetLife Stadium.
He has struggled to replicate his success since leaving Seattle after the 2021 season. After two roller-coaster years with the Broncos, he signed with the Steelers in 2024 and went 6-5 as a starter during the regular season before losing to the Ravens in the wild-card round.
The Giants then signed Wilson to be their starter ahead of rookie Jaxson Dart, but he lasted just three starts (all losses) before Dart was installed as the starter.
Wilson is currently a free agent.
