Carson Beck could reportedly be hurt by his personality in the 2026 NFL Draft.
A report published on Tuesday by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer suggested that NFL teams heard that Beck was a “bit of a loner” and an AFC coordinator told the insider that “there’s this sense that this guy is a villain.”
The questions come with the NFL draft’s first round set to take place in Pittsburgh on Thursday.
Beck is coming off a season in which he threw for 3,813 yards and 30 touchdowns while helping Miami reach the national championship game.
But some NFL personnel seem to have questions regarding the prospect.
“He’s talented enough, smooth, on time, sees it well, he’s smart — probably the smartest kid in the class,” one NFC coordinator told Breer. “But the personality is tough. I wouldn’t touch him.”
While the coordinator mentioned Beck’s persona, he said QB did have a “really good year.”
“Big kid, very smart, another guy that’s well prepared from the neck up,” he added. “He has a big enough arm. He’s a marginal athlete, but I think he’s got the ability to navigate the pocket, does a good job of mitigating bad plays, and his sack avoidance is good — the sacks he takes are minimized. He just plays within himself. He was asked to do more at Georgia, but he’s capable of all that stuff, as far as controlling what’s out there.
“Floor is a good backup, and I would be surprised if he’s a low-end starter.”
Beck could very well be the third quarterback taken in the upcoming draft, and he reportedly met with several teams, including the Jets and Dolphins.
The first round of the 2026 NFL Draft will begin at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday outside Acrisure Stadium.
