Yankees' Cam Schlittler getting 'death threats' before Fenway debut

When Cam Schlittler discusses facing the Red Sox at Fenway Park in his next start, I expect to look left and right in the Yankees clubhouse and see the scruffy Thurman Munson and Graig Nettles and not the gentlemanly Max Fried and Gerrit Cole.

Let’s just say that given the choice on whether to toss kerosene or water on the lingering embers from last October’s conflict with a segment of Red Sox fans, Schlittler did in words what he does on the mound — threw heat. And made it feel a little like The Rivalry again.

“I don’t really care going in there that they kind of hate me,” Schlittler said Sunday. “I don’t have an issue with that. It really just gets me going a little bit.”

On what he expects Thursday night at Fenway: “It’s gonna be bad, It’s gonna be bad. I’m not nervous about it. But it’s gonna be loud. They’re gonna probably have dudes that are my age or a little bit younger, sitting right outside the (visiting) bullpen (that is mostly exposed in right field), yelling, whatever, probably throwing stuff at me, trying to grab me. That’s kind of what I expect. So I know the guys are excited for it and I’m excited for it.”
