AEW declined some prime opportunities for instant fan gratification in favor of what it likely hopes are long-term gains.
It was a rough night for babyfaces and Canadians at AEW Dynasty at Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Sunday night.
We saw Chris Jericho lose his return match to Ricochet, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage fall to FTR in their AEW World Tag Team championship match, Englishman Will Ospreay get defeated by Jon Moxley in their clash for the Continental championship and, least surprisingly, Kenny Omega being unable to defeat MJF for the AEW World championship in the main event.
Thankfully, many of these were not done clean as Ricochet got plenty of help from Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona. Stokely saved FTR several times and the title belt was smashed over Copeland’s head. MJF once again used his Dynamite Diamond Ring — fetching it from referee Bryce Remsburg’s pocket to beat Omega. Even Thekla held onto the ropes to pin Jamie Hayter to retain her Women’s World championship. It keeps the situation perfect for Mercedes Mone’s eventual return.
