All that separates Tamin Lipsey’s Iowa State Cyclones and Ja’Kobi Gillespie’s Tennessee Volunteers from the Elite Eight is 40 minutes.
In order to get there, one of the two talented clubs will have to capitalize in their Sweet 16 matchup tonight at Chicago’s United Center.
A case could be made that this is Iowa State’s game to lose. They’re the No. 2-seed in the Midwest Conference against Tennessee’s No. 6 and oddsmakers have them listed as a 4.5-point favorite going into the game.
However, Tennessee has been on a streaky run, having won over the upstart Miami Ohio and favored Virginia (in controversial fashion) to start the tourney.
Rocky Top Talk says if the squad “keeps Ja’Kobi Gillespie hot, dominate the offensive glass, refuse to let Iowa State turn the club over, limit Milan Momcilovic,” they just might have hope.
All we know is that we’ll be tuning in.
