SAN DIEGO — Look, we can all rage at the miscreants who mismanage the NCAA Tournament brackets every year, and not just those of us who follow St. John’s. There’s always a school or two that looks at the seedings and wonders if they’re being punked. There are always a half-dozen teams left out of the tournament entirely who have gripes, legit ones.

Nobody wants a bigger tournament, but nobody seems to much care for the end results of the one we’ve got, either. Such is life.

Were the Johnnies treated unfairly by the committee? Of course they were. You want to make a case that they’re one of the 17-20 best teams in America, and not one of the 13th-16th best? That’s fair. If you want to say that UConn — which St. John’s beat twice, the last by 22 points in the Big East Championship — still deserves a higher seed because they finished 29-5, a game better than the Johnnies?

OK. We’ll hear you out on that one.
