LOS ANGELES — The Islanders made a splash in the last hour before the trade deadline.
After rumors over the last few days centered heavily on Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou, the Islanders ended up acquiring a different St. Louis Blue: Brayden Schenn.
The 34-year-old Schenn, who wore the “C” in St. Louis, is under contract through 2028 at $6.5 million per year.
He had a 15-team no-trade clause, but waived it to join the Islanders, per Frank Seravalli.
The Islanders sent back a first and third-round pick along with a prospect in return, per TSN’s Darren Dreger.
Schenn has 12 goals and 16 assists this season with the Blues, and plays on the power play. He can play any forward position but is a natural center.
