Breanna Stewart tells The Post that WNBA CBA talks need to hit next gear

With the 2026 WNBA season inching closer and a new collective bargaining agreement yet to be finalized, Breanna Stewart said both sides need to feel the time crunch and negotiate with a sense of urgency. 

In an exclusive interview with The Post ahead of Unrivaled’s March 2 debut at Barclays Center, Stewart on Friday said labor talks need to accelerate in order to avoid a delayed start to the season, especially considering the league still needs to execute two drafts and arguably the WNBA’s biggest free agency to date. 

Asked about her level of optimism that the WNBA will open on its scheduled start date of May 8, Stewart said she wasn’t sure. 

“I think that for it to start on time, like, [the] deal needs to be done within the next two weeks, and I don’t know,” Stewart said. “Right now, I don’t know. I’ll have more of an idea once they respond back.”
