Last March, RJ Luis Jr. became the first St. John’s player in 39 years to be named the Big East Player of the Year.

Could Zuby Ejiofor make it back-to-back?

The star forward is clearly in the conversation with half the conference season to go. It’s almost certainly going to come down to the 6-foot-9 Ejiofor or one of three stars from Big East-leading Connecticut.

Ejiofor, who was probably the most valuable player for St. John’s a year ago, is having a fantastic senior season. He’s leading the Johnnies in scoring (15.6), rebounding (7.4), assists (3.3) and blocked shots (2.2). He was also their leader in steals (1.2) until do-it-all teammate Dillon Mitchell surpassed him. On Thursday, Ejiofor was named to the watch list for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year
