Two things can be true when it comes to Alexander Zverev.

He’s one of the most talented men’s tennis players on the planet. And he’s also one of the most frustrating.

The German is still looking for his first Grand Slam title, having gone 0-3 in finals and 3-6 in semifinals in his career.

Zverev is now 28 years old and is a ways behind the two flag-bearers in the sport, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Zverev’s toolkit will always make him a tempting pick to win Grand Slams when they come around, but he’s no stranger to early exits.

The Hamburg native was bounced in Round 1 at Wimbledon and in Round 2 at the US Open in 2025.

He’s got a tricky opening match against Gabriel Diallo in the 2026 Australian Open.

Alexander Zverev vs. Gabriel Diallo odds, prediction

There may not be a more boom or bust player on the ATP Tour right now than Gabriel Diallo.

The Canadian packs all-world power with his serve, but if it’s even slightly off, he lacks a Plan B, especially against top-notch players.

Diallo, 24, is still in the beginning stages of his career, but he’ll need to refine some of his other tools if he’s going to be a consistent threat to win big titles on the ATP Tour.

Zverev also has a massive serve, but his game is much more well-rounded than Diallo’s.

The problem is that he regularly comes unfurled on the court, which seems to be a mental problem more than anything else.

When Zverev is an underdog against his peers, he can be an appealing player to back. But when he’s a massive favorite, it’s a good idea to go the other way, especially against a high-upside player like Diallo.

This is not a bet you should expect to win, but there are some feasible paths to victory for the Canadian in the hot, server-friendly conditions Saturday.

The Play: Gabriel Diallo moneyline (+500, bet365)
