Knicks owner James Dolan is planning on raising a banner at Madison Square Garden after all the talk following his team’s NBA Cup win in Las Vegas, he revealed during an appearance on WFAN Monday evening.

But it won’t be to commemorate the in-season tournament win.

“We are going to raise the banner. We’re going to raise the NBA championship banner. That’s the banner we want to raise,” he said on “The Carton Show” on Monday, affirming the organization’s focus on winning an NBA title.

“We want an NBA championship, we don’t want some consolation prize,” Dolan added.

The Knicks captured the NBA Cup championship with a 1124-113 win over the Spurs on Dec. 16.

The banner controversy came up amid a myriad of topics during a 20-plus-minute interview with hosts Craig Carton and Chris McMonigle, marking the first time the owner of the Knicks, Rangers, Madison Square Garden and various other properties had given an interview with a media member since Jan. 2023.

Dolan did say that he thought the organization “felt good about the cup” and he mentioned he thought the Knicks were going to end up playing Oklahoma City in the NBA Cup championship game.

“I thought this is going to be a great [NBA Final] preview, but maybe [playing the Spurs] was the preview. Maybe the finals is Knicks-Spurs, I don’t know,” Dolan said. “But to get a chance midseason to try out what you’re going to be like at the end of the season, it was exciting.

“I was very proud of the guys. They did a great job and we’re proud to have the Emirates Cup, but we’re going to hang a championship banner, a real banner.”

The Knicks are currently 23-12 heading into Monday night’s game against the Pistons and sit three games back of Detroit for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
