Frank Cairone, a top prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, was hospitalized after a serious car accident in New Jersey on Friday, the team announced on Saturday.

“Left-handed pitcher and 2025 draft pick Frank Cairone was involved in a car accident yesterday in Franklinville, New Jersey,” the team said in a press release, according to MLB.com. “Frank is currently being cared for at a hospital in New Jersey with the support of his family.

“The Brewers’ thoughts and prayers are with Frank and his family during this difficult time. We will provide updates on Frank’s condition as they become available.”

Cairone, 18, was selected by Milwaukee in the second round (68th overall) this past July out of Delsea Regional High School.

Frank Cairone was selected 68th overall by the Brewers in the 2025 MLB Draft.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound lefty saw his stock climb after a dominant senior season, striking out 94 hitters in 44 innings while reaching the mid-90s with his fastball, according to NJ.com.

He drew a dozen scouts to one of his starts and told the Courier Post he leaned on longtime pitcher Bobby Witt Sr. for advice during the draft process.

“Frank is everything you want, he wants to work and get better, and I think he knows what he is capable of doing and he has everything you want in his makeup,” Witt told the outlet.

Despite being just 17 at the time he was drafted, Cairone chose to forgo his commitment to Coastal Carolina and embark on a professional career.

Milwaukee selected Cairone as a compensatory pick for right-hander Chris Levonas — another New Jersey standout — who opted to attend Wake Forest instead of signing in 2024.

He did not make his pro debut in 2025 but is ranked as the Brewers’ No. 26 prospect by MiLB.com.

In addition to his size and uptick in velocity, he impressed scouts with a strong showing at the MLB Draft Combine in Arizona this past June, which included a bullpen session at Chase Field, home of the Diamondbacks.

“It was awesome,” Cairone told the Courier Post. “And hopefully one day I will get the chance to pitch on a big-league mound.”
