Philip Rivers’ massive family supports him in first Colts home game after NFL return

The Rivers family certainly gets its money’s worth with a luxury box.

Before Philip Rivers’ first home game with the Colts following his stunning un-retirement at the age of 44, the father of 10 seemingly shared a tender moment with his loved ones.

ESPN captured Rivers — a grandfather — looking into the seats at Lucas Oil Stadium and giving a wave toward a particular section, with the “Monday Night Football” broadcast then quickly panning to his family in luxury seats.

Unfortunately for the large Rivers clan, the patriarch could not lead the Colts to a win despite a good showing in the 48-27 home loss to the 49ers, which has Indianapolis on the edge of playoff elimination.

Rivers completed 23 of 35 passes for 277 yards with two interceptions and a late pick-six that all but ended Indianapolis’ (8-7) chances of a comeback in his second game back.

“Obviously disappointed again, we didn’t get it done collectively as a team, either side of the ball,” Rivers said after falling to 0-2 in his starts. “But it felt good out there.”

Rivers’ return is one of the biggest storylines of the 2025 NFL season due to its shocking nature.

The former first-round pick had been named in November a semifinalist for the Hall of Fame and also had been coaching St. Michael Catholic (Ala.).

Injuries to Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson, though, opened the door for the Colts to consider what some may consider a crazy reunion with a retired player.

Rivers explained that his wife, Tiffany, had some reservations about him returning to the gridiron.

Tiffany and Philip shared 10 children, per Yahoo: Halle, 23; Caroline, 18; Grace, 17; Gunner, 15; Sarah, 14; Peter, 13; Rebecca, 12; Clare, 10; Anna, 6; and Andrew, 2.

“My wife’s been my biggest fan the whole time I’ve played and she’s nervous about the physical aspect of it, as you would expect any wife to,” Rivers said after returning.

“For 250 games, or whatever it was, that was a risk, as you see every week … shoot, if something like that happens, I got a long time to recover. But they’ve been very supportive.”

Rivers added at the time that his youngest children were quite excited since they didn’t remember seeing him play, with Rivers previously having last suited up on Jan. 9, 2021.

“My six-year-old actually asked me four months ago, ‘Dad, why don’t you play anymore?’” Rivers said. “‘Hun, I’m sorry, the best you’re gonna get is me coaching the sidelines. … My boys are fired up, but share the same sentiment, a little nervous, like, ‘Dad, you think you can do it?’

“My older girls, are real excited because they’re a little bit confused. … They’re now grown adults, married, and they remember 16-years-old going to the ball games.”

Though the Colts have yet to win with Rivers, he looked like his old self Monday night.

Rivers kept Indianapolis in the game while his defense put up as much resistance as a folding chair before the killer interception return for a touchdown that gave San Francisco a 48-27 lead with 3:26 remaining.

Indianapolis can now be eliminated from playoff contention next week when it hosts the division-leading Jaguars.

“Right now, we’re not getting it done, and I know this locker room is hurting,” Rivers said. “We had got to find a way to dig deep and win a football game.”
