The Patriots are going to have to deal with a Jets quarterback named Brady.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn said rookie Brady Cook will make his third start this Sunday when the Jets face the 12-3 Patriots. Cook has one touchdown pass and six interceptions in the three games since he came in for an injured Tyrod Taylor.

In the loss to the Saints last Sunday, Cook had an interception, a fumble and just one completed pass that traveled more than 9 yards in the air.

Glenn insisted after the game that Cook gives the Jets the best chance to win, even with Taylor now healthy. It is more likely the Jets are trying to evaluate where Cook fits in going forward and are not overly concerned with winning these last few games and worsening their draft position.

“Brady will be our starting quarterback,” Glenn said Monday. “Listen, there were some things in that game, and I think if you go back and watch the beginning of the game, I thought he was doing a really, really good job. As the game progressed, I will say this: Between Brady making some mistakes, between the protection of the O-line, between some of the concepts that we had for him, all of our hands are involved in some of the mistakes that happened in that game. But I thought he did a really good job at the beginning of the game managing the game the right way.”

Cook was sacked eight times in the game, and many of those sacks were because he held the ball too long. But Glenn said there is blame to go around for the sacks.

“All of our hands are bloody in that instance of, man Brady, for one, you have to get the ball out of your hands in some of those,” Glenn said. “We have to understand where the pressure is coming from. Two, the O-line, we have to do a better job in protection, you know. That’s just what it is when you watch the tape. And thirdly, we have to do a better job with the concepts that we have to make sure he’s allowed to get the ball out of his hands.”

Jets LB Jamien Sherwood had his best game of the season Sunday. Sherwood has had a disappointing year after signing a three-year, $45 million contract extension in March.

“My season didn’t go the way I would have wanted it to,” Sherwood said Monday. “In certain areas, I feel like I definitely need to be way better than I was. I’m not really mad about it, but I am because it’s just things I get to work on in the offseason, things that I know I need to work on, make sure I get better going into these last few games. It hasn’t gone the way I wanted it to. But as I continue to get better and keep learning this defense and getting more comfortable, things will change.”
