The  Red Bulls are trading away one of their top stars.

Lewis Morgan is being dealt to San Diego FC in exchange for a SuperDraft pick, according to multiple reports.

The Red Bulls are covering a portion of his contract in the trade that closes a four-year chapter for the Scottish international, who arrived in New York by way of a swap with Inter Miami CF.

San Diego will also send the Red Bulls roughly $400,000 in general allocation money, with New York sending an amount that would be similar to San Diego in 2027, The Athletic reported.

Morgan has been hampered by injuries during his time with the Red Bulls and missed all but three matches in 2025 due to a knee injury and a quad issue.

It was reported in November by amNewYork that Morgan, who had resumed running on grass, was expected to be fully ready to start the preseason in January.

Julian de Guzman, promoted to head of sport in October, spoke highly of Morgan and supported the idea that he could still be relied on despite the injury setbacks.

”I’m seeing Lewis Morgan every day,” de Guzman said. “You can see the smile grow more and more when he’s getting closer to kicking the ball again. It’s been frustrating for him. I feel for a player like Lewis because he’s gone through this already. The fire he has to come back onto the field as to what he’s shown in 2024. This is the hope that we have for him in 2026.

“We’re being patient with him. Will we push him? For sure, because we need him.”

Morgan’s best season came in 2024 when he recorded 13 goals and seven assists in 29 appearances for the Red Bulls, winning Comeback Player of the Year.

It’s the second player move that de Guzman has made this week after reportedly shipping midfielder Peter Stroud to Minnesota.
