Troy Aikman shows off insane workout as he piggybacks off Philip Rivers return

Troy Aikman is getting back in the game.

Not literally, but the former Cowboys quarterback showed off a new core workout in an Instagram video that he has put into his routine just in case he is called back to become Philip Rivers 2.0.

“Saw this core exercise and had to give it a try. Just in case any other teams are looking for a retired QB,” Aikman wrote Thursday.

The move, an elevated variation of a plank up-down by the use of a dumbbell, is a dynamic exercise that moves from a high plank to a low plank while working your core, arms and shoulders.

Aikman purposely pointed to Rivers’ shocking NFL return this week when the Colts signed him onto to the practice squad Monday to be available to be under center Sunday against the Seahawks.

Rivers, who retired in 2020 after one season in Indianapolis and a 17-year career, just turned 44 and is 15 years junior to Aikman.

The NFL game analyst for ESPN retired in 2001 after 12 years in the league.

Coach Shane Steichen, a close friend of Rivers, got off to a hot start this season after signing ex-Giant Daniel Jones to a one-year deal.

The Colts went 7-1 with one of the top offenses in the league.

They’ve gone 1-5 since and in Week 14, Jones suffered a season-ending non-contact Achilles injury in the Colts’ 36-19 loss to the Jaguars.

It has landed the Indianapolis in a tough spot with Anthony Richardson on IR and Riley Leonard working through injury but expected to play against the 49ers on Monday.

With a lot on the line, including Steichen’s job security, Rivers has been called in to possibly work some magic to save the season.

While Aikman tries to look the part, he will likely be watching closely in ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” booth.
