Whether it’s John Mara, Joe Schoen or a new general manager, the person who picks the next Giants head coach won’t be quarterback Jaxson Dart.
“You’re going to take that into account if he has an opinion,” Schoen said earlier this week. “But all due respect to Jaxson, he’s been here for nine months. You want to lean on him if it’s an offensive mind or concepts or something, but you’ve got people in the building who have been doing this for over 20 years and [have] networks around the league and know what it looks like.”
It sounds obvious enough, right?
Except that is a notable departure from the sense of empowerment the Giants bestowed on Malik Nabers as a rookie — and maybe a sign the post-Brian Daboll era Giants are learning to walk the line between making great players feel valued and making them feel in charge.
