Eric Adams vows participants in UFC 322 brawl will be held 'accountable'

New York Mayor Eric Adams isn’t letting the bell ring on any legal consequences for the brawl inside Madison Square Garden at UFC 322 earlier this month.

In a social media post on Monday, Hizzoner vowed to hold everyone involved in the altercation between Dillon Danis and the teammates of UFC welterweight champ Islam Makhachev accountable.

“These assaults at Madison Square Garden are completely unacceptable,” Adams wrote on X. “The NYPD is already conducting a full investigation, and everyone responsible will be held accountable.”

UFC CEO Dana White said Danis was banned from future UFC events for his part in the ugly altercation, but added that he declined to press charges following the dust-up.

“So they called me from downstairs and they said, ‘We got him down here. Do you want to press charges and have him arrested?’ And I said, no, we don’t want to press charges. It’s the fight business, man,” he said during the post-event press conference.

Nevertheless, it seems Adams has no intention of letting the brawl get swept under the rug now that UFC has packed up its tent and moved on.

The massive brawl broke out on the floor of the Garden as uniformed NYPD officers and event security attempted to intervene amid the chaos.

The altercation broke out as a result of a feud between Danis and Makhachev, whose team had taken offense to recent trolling by Danis on social media. Javier Mendez, coach of Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov, told Submission Radio that AI videos that Danis had shared had pushed things over the edge, with one featuring Makhachev kissing his agent.

Danis was taken to a holding cell in the bowels of Madison Square Garden after things settled down.

The UFC 322 brawl wouldn’t be the first time that law enforcement has gotten involved in some sort of chaos at an arena in the five boroughs because of the promotion.

Conor McGregor was charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of felony criminal mischief after he threw a hand dolly through the window of a bus that had UFC fighters in it following a press event for UFC 223 at Barclays Center in 2018.

McGregor later pled guilty to disorderly conduct and was ordered to perform community service.
