Through three games, there have been two St. John’s offenses: The one with Dylan Darling and the one without the Idaho State transfer.

It was pretty evident, after No. 13 St. John’s rout of William & Mary on Saturday, that for the time being Darling is going to be the guy leading the Red Storm offense. Coach Rick Pitino and starting guard Oziyah Sellers raved about Darling’s toughness, his understanding of where to go with the ball and his overall importance.

“I feel like whenever I’m playing with him, he finds ways to get me open,” Sellers, a sharpshooting Stanford transfer, said.

That doesn’t mean this will be the case a month from now. But right now, Darling has earned the opportunity. Sellers, initially anointed as the starting point guard, is more comfortable off the ball doing what he was brought here to do: Let it fly. He took six 3-pointers on Saturday and made three of them. St. John’s outscored William & Mary by 30 points in Darling’s 31 minutes. In the opener against Quinnipiac, the Johnnies were plus-24 in his 17 minutes.
