TORONTO — There was a touch of Kirk Gibson and a lot of Joe Carter.
George Springer, gimpy but game, hit the most important home run for the Blue Jays since a ball that went to pretty much the same vicinity in what was then called the SkyDome. That was on Oct. 23, 1993, when Carter pulled a Mitch Williams pitch into the left field seats for a three-run homer that turned a one-run deficit into an 8-6 walk-off World Series-clinching victory over the Phillies.
That gave the Blue Jays consecutive championships and marked the last time they were in the World Series.
