That’s a concept the Rangers have missed the mark on over the previous two coaching staffs spanning the past four seasons. Regardless of the two Eastern Conference final appearances, the Presidents’ Trophy and all the team records that have been collected over that span, the on-ice product was never exactly sustainable.
No two seasons are the same, but the Rangers dominating in their first year under a new coach to falling so short of expectations the next became a pattern. One that cost two coaches their jobs.
The new Rangers bench boss, Mike Sullivan, is striving to create a team identity that can go the distance.
