Sennheiser has announced a new pair of headphones that support high-res audio through a wired or wireless connection, even if your smartphone doesn’t support the latest Bluetooth codecs. The HDB 630 looks similar to the redesigned Sennheiser Momentum 4 that launched in 2022 because both headphones are built on the same chassis, but Sennheiser’s latest features a new “customized acoustic system built for focused listening” plus conveniences like active noise cancellation and stellar battery life.
The HDB 630 supports high-res audio with a resolution up to 24-bit/96 kHz when connected to a source with a USB-C or 3.5mm audio cable. The headphones also support high-res wireless audio streaming using the Bluetooth aptX Adaptive codec. The older Momentum 4 supported the aptX Adaptive codec, too, but three years later only a handful of smartphones support it. Sennheiser’s solution is to bundle a USB-C transmitter dongle with the HDB 360 that brings aptX Adaptive support to phones and tablets lacking native support.
You’ll find 42-millimeter drivers in each ear cup that Sennheiser says have been tuned for accurate reproduction. Battery life is the same as the Momentum 4, with Sennheiser claiming up to 60 hours of listening on a full charge with ANC turned on and up to seven hours of use from a 10-minute charge. Through Sennheiser’s Smart Control Plus app, you’ll also have access to a new parametric equalizer for making precise EQ adjustments including bandwidth controls, filters, and the ability to quickly A/B test two configurations. Sennheiser also has plans for a future update to the app allowing you to share your EQ tweaks as a preset with others through a QR code.
