Darius Slayton doubtful for Giants’ already-thin receiver corps

With the short week, the Giants held a walk-through on Tuesday. If they went through an actual practice, wide receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring) and right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (back) would not have participated.

Head coach Brian Daboll sounded optimistic that Eluemunor will be able to play Thursday night against the Eagles.

He sounded less optimistic about Slayton, saying the team will take it all the way to game time before making a determination about Slayton’s availability.

This could be problematic for an offense without its top weapon, Malik Nabers, who is out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.

Without him, the longest completion rookie Jaxson Dart had in last week’s 26-13 loss to the Saints was for only 18 yards — to tight end Daniel Bellinger.

Slayton, the longest-tenured Giants player on offense, is coming off one of the worst games of his seven-year career.

In the second quarter, he failed to haul in a deep ball from Dart and later lost a fumble — the first of five turnovers for the Giants on five consecutive offensive possessions.

If Slayton is unable to play, expect a wide receiver from the practice squad — most likely Lil’Jordan Humphrey — to be added to the roster.

“Let’s see where Slay’s at,” Daboll said. “If Slay can’t go then we’ll probably do something here. Want to see where he’s at in these next couple of days.”

Dart (hamstring) was upgraded to a full participant in a projected practice. “Yeah, I feel good, I’m excited,’’ Dart said.

NT Dexter Lawrence missed all three days of practice last week dealing with an illness. There were 66 snaps on defense in New Orleans and Lawrence was on the field for only 31 of them.

“I felt fine out there, a couple of times got a little lightheaded,’’ Lawrence said. “The sickness was kicking my butt all week so that was expected. Nothing too crazy. Think I had a good game plan going in.’’

Asked if he is now 100 percent now, he said, “Not 100, yeah.”

LB Swayze Bozeman (ankle) and LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring) also would have been listed as nonparticipants if the Giants held a full practice.
