Liverpool is in first place in the Premier League with five wins and a loss from its first six matches, but it is fair to suggest that the Reds are on shaky ground right now.

Four of Liverpool’s five victories featured late winners, and they blew a pair of two-goal leads in their first two wins of the campaign.

And Liverpool’s first loss of the season, which came last weekend at Crystal Palace, could have been a rout if not for Alisson’s heroics in goal.

A trip to Istanbul for a Champions League encounter with Galatasaray could provide a tricky test for the Reds.

Liverpool vs. Galatasaray odds, prediction

Liverpool’s unbeaten start was built on smoke and mirrors.

The Reds were getting wins thanks to individual heroics, but they were showing serious warts defensively.

Those flaws should have shown up in a big way against Crystal Palace, but their goalkeeper stood on his head through the first half.

It’s not hyperbolic to say that Palace could have been up 4-0 on Liverpool through the first 30 minutes of their match last week.

That performance came on the heels of several other fortunate wins, including against 18th-place Burnley, when Mo Salah spared Liverpool’s blushes with a 94th-minute penalty kick.

The Reds are clearly a better side than Galatasaray, but the Turkish giants have more than enough talent in their ranks to give this shaky Liverpool defense a scare.

Mauro Icardi, Leroy Sane, Victor Osimhen, and Mario Lemina all have played, and still can play, at the highest level, and they’ll be champing at the bit to get on over on one of Europe’s biggest clubs in front of a raucous crowd at Rams Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Until Liverpool’s defense improves, they’re a fade. And because of their stature, you’ll always get a decent price to go the other way in their matches.

The Play: Galatasaray (+360, FanDuel)
