Inside Giants' QB decision: How it all went down

There is so much out there now that Jaxson Dart is in and Russell Wilson is out.

Why? Why now? What does it all mean? Who made the call? Who agreed? Who disagreed? Were there ulterior motives? Is everything in disarray?

Here is what we know, based on the Post’s observations and insider information:

Head coach Brian Daboll stressed “It’s my decision’’ over and over again and that could have been toned down a bit — it did sound over-compensating, leading to an assumption that he went rogue here. This was not the case. With the Giants, depth chart decisions are always the purview of the head coach. He accepts input from those around him but it is the head coach with final say. Back in 2004, general manager Ernie Accorsi wanted rookie Eli Manning to sit, watch and learn, most likely for the entire season. Tom Coughlin, in his first year with the Giants, after nine games (record of 5-4) decided to pull the plug on Kurt Warner and start Manning. There was a discussion but Coughlin as the head coach made the move. Did Daboll do this to save his job? He did this to save the season. He certainly realizes what another lost season will mean, as far as his job security.
