Giants takeaways from their 22-9 loss to the Chiefs Sunday night at MetLife Stadium:

— The fanbase is growing accustomed to all this. It certainly sounded that way in the first home game of the season. Sure, there was some level of excitement when the Giants did something positive — mainly when Cam Skattebo ran the ball or Jaxson Dart entered the game for a few cameo snaps — but otherwise, there was no great sense that an upset was brewing. The Giants won one home game last season, and now they are 0-1 at home this season. The paying customers are not dumb. There was an anticipation that Patrick Mahomes would find a way and he did. There was a palpable sense that the Giants would most likely not find a way and they did not. It’s a sad reality for a franchise that makes losing pretty much a weekly ritual. The home-field advantage is not close to where it needs to be.

— Brian Daboll repeatedly harped on how poor the passing game was, especially on third down, and he made it a point of emphasis several times to make sure everyone knew the Giants were 1 for 10 on third down. That sounds like a strong indictment of Russell Wilson and that could signal that a change at quarterback is nearing. The Giants’ three games into the season have two horrid performances from Wilson and last week’s dynamic 450-yard eruption in the overtime loss in Dallas. The fans are already restless and sending Wilson out there again next week for another home game, this one against the Chargers, might be asking for trouble.

— Abdul Carter is getting in the flow. He was more active in this game than in his first two. Yes, he will kick himself for missing on what should have been a sack of Mahomes, but there are legions of players around the league who kick themselves every week when they are unable to get full grasp of the slippery quarterback. Carter had four tackles, including a physical stop of Isiah Pacheco for a 1-yard loss. Carter also had one quarterback hit. He has not hit the ground running after creating massive expectations with his exploits in training camp, but it seems as if it is merely a matter of time before he gets rolling.
