Pete Alonso received a standing ovation as he departed for a pinch runner in Sunday’s eighth inning.

But after his team’s 3-2 loss to the Nationals, the star first baseman wasn’t viewing that gesture as his Citi Field farewell in a Mets uniform, even though it might have been.

“We’ll see what happens, but I am a firm believer that the right thing is going to happen,” Alonso said.

Alonso is certain to exercise the opt-out in his contract after this season, leaving him as a free agent. Alonso returned last winter on a two-year contract worth $54 million that included the opt-out.

If the Mets play another home game this season, it would entail clinching a postseason berth on the road over the next six games and winning the wild-card series before returning to Citi Field for Game 3 of the NLDS.

That’s a tall order for sure.

“This place has been really special to me,” Alonso said. “The fans are awesome, super passionate and really dedicated to this team.”

Alonso noted the chatter last season as he approached his potential Citi Field finale with the Mets before heading to free agency.

“If I had a nickel for how many times everyone in this room has [talked about] that and I received it, I’d be really rich,” he said. “So, again, we’ll see what happens.”

Tyrone Taylor went 1-for-5 in a final minor league rehab game Sunday for Triple-A Syracuse.

The outfielder, who is returning from a left hamstring strain, will potentially rejoin the Mets on Tuesday in Chicago.

Kodai Senga will face live hitters either Tuesday or Wednesday in Port St. Lucie, Fla., as he attempts to show team brass he’s worthy of consideration if the Mets reach the postseason.

Senga struggled in an outing Thursday for Syracuse — his second start after agreeing to a minor league demotion to work on mechanics.

Mets relievers combined for six scoreless innings and nine strikeouts.

It marked the second time this season the Mets received at least six scoreless innings from the bullpen.

The season high was 6 ¹/₃ shutout innings from relievers against the Braves on June 26.

The Mets finished 49-32 (.605) at home.

The winning percentage is tied for the 12th-best mark in franchise history.
