The Yankees were one of only a handful of teams (fewer than five) that checked in on Paul Skenes even after word was out that the Pirates had no intention of trading the Cy Young leader.

That was the one case where the Yankees were willing to discuss Spencer Jones and George Lombard Jr. But talks went nowhere.

The Yankees’ inquiry about the untouchable Skenes closely followed The Post report about Skenes’ famous influencer girlfriend, Livvy Dunne, seeking an apartment in NYC (and a failed bid for Babe Ruth’s Upper West Side digs!), and though the Yankees saw the report, they say they didn’t read that as evidence Skenes prefers New York.

They just figured a phone call couldn’t hurt. (Skenes actually spent last winter in Baton Rouge, La., and Georgia.)
