NFL Coach of the Year is a strange award.

It’s part of your ability to show a team’s improvement, but there’s also an insane media piece of it that can’t be overlooked.

Frankly, this has become an award where bettors would be wise to keep their ears open to see where award voters are leaning.

Sometimes, having the best record or showing the most improvement isn’t enough to take home the hardware or cash a winning ticket.

This is why I have a few angles already picked out, and don’t be afraid to move off your positions come midseason.

NFL Coach of the Year predictions

One team that we expect to take a massive leap forward is the Denver Broncos.

We know that the AFC West is loaded, but Bo Nix just might be the guy that the Broncos have been waiting for since Peyton Manning hung up his cleats many years ago.

The Broncos added plenty of talent to their roster, including tight end Evan Engram, while also upgrading at running back with RJ Harvey and at linebacker with Dre Greenlaw.

While the season hasn’t started yet, there’s already a bit of a narrative that the Broncos, who have seen their Super Bowl odds drop from 30/1 to 18/1 at some books, could be a dark horse contender to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

There’s certainly no voter fatigue for Payton, who retired and came back only recently.

This is as good a bet as any this preseason.

Betting on the NFL?

Mike Vrabel (+700, FanDuel)

The betting favorite, we’re looking at chalk here as the Patriots project to improve dramatically under a new coach and second-year quarterback Drake Maye.

Of the last 10 winners of the award, five have been coaches who are in their first year with their teams.

So you’re paying a premium for Vrabel, but the Patriots’ signing of Stefon Diggs, as well as drafting Treyveon Henderson, should be a boon in New England.

Why Trust New York Post Betting

Erich Richter is a brazilian jiu-jitsu blue belt but he has a black belt in MMA betting. During the football season he’s showcased massive profits at The Post in the player prop market the last two seasons. While constantly betting long shots, his return on investment is 30.15 percent since 2022.
