Roel Pavia and Javier Pavia, the older brothers of Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, were arrested Saturday night on misdemeanor charges of public intoxication and resisting arrest, according to court documents.
Roel, 26, is facing an additional felony charge of assault on law enforcement, and both brothers were released from police custody early Sunday morning.
Roel and Javier, 25, are due in court on Tuesday.
The report did not include further details about the incident, while Diego has yet to publicly address it.
His brothers’ arrests came as the 24-year-old quarterback shined in Vanderbilt’s 45-3 trouncing of Charleston Southern in a season opener for both teams on Saturday.
Diego’s final year of eligibility with Vanderbilt started off hot.
He threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns in the Commodores’ victory over the Buccaneers.
Diego was 20-of-25 passing without an interception for Vanderbilt before be was relieved by backup Blaze Berlowitz to start the fourth quarter.
Both quarterbacks transferred to the Vanderbilt from New Mexico State University
“Diego was efficient,” Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea said. “We were moving in the run game, and we were completing passes. It looked exactly how we wanted it to look.”
Vanderbilt will hit the road for two away games against Virginia Tech next weekend followed by a matchup with South Carolina to open SEC play in Columbia Sept. 13.
