The 49ers have no intention to trade Jauan Jennings, even if he did request a trade.

General manager John Lynch addressed reporters on Wednesday and confirmed that Jennings had asked for a trade “a while ago” and that the team didn’t grant the ask from the wide receiver.

“He asked for it and we’ve moved on,” Lynch said, according to ESPN. “We’re not doing that. So, we’re moving forward.”

Jennings left training camp after four days because of a calf injury and had been a question mark for the 49ers with the season approaching.

The 28-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, and he had been looking for an extension earlier in the summer, ESPN reported.

The 49ers open the season against the Seahawks on Sept. 7, and with the game just 10 days away, San Francisco would like to get Jennings onto the field since he hasn’t practiced since July 27.

“Ideally everybody has a training camp, everyone is out there,” Lynch said. “That’s a perfect world, but he’s been putting in work to the side and we’ll have to make that judgment when the time comes.”

Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the team’s final preseason game that he did “expect” Jennings to be back for Week 1.

Jennings appeared in 15 games last season for San Francisco and recorded 77 catches for 975 yards and six touchdowns.

All four of his seasons in the NFL have been with the 49ers, who gave him a two-year extension in 2024.

Lynch seemed to shoot down the idea that his absence was more than just an injury.

“Both things can be true,” Lynch said. “He wants a new contract and he’s got a hurt calf. I think people want to assume one or the other, but both things can be true.”
