After an Emmy-winning debut season in 2023, “The Last of Us” returns for Season 2 tonight.

The first season was inspired by the hit video game of the same name that followed a global pandemic stemming from a mass fungal infection; Season 2 will begin to adapt “The Last of Us Part II,” though that will take more than one season to accomplish. Luckily, the show has already been renewed for Season 3 ahead of tonight’s premiere.

Five years after the events of Season 1, viewers will reunite with the now-19-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey), whose relationship with Joel (Pedro Pascal) has strained significantly in the intervening years.

How closely will Season 2 follow the events of the second game, which introduces several new characters?

Series creator Craig Mazin told The Post, “Fans know what happened in the game. They don’t necessarily know the plot events of the show.”

what to know about ‘the last of us’

  • Date and time: Sundays, 9 p.m. ET (from April 13 through May 25)
  • Channel: HBO
  • Streaming: Max (via Prime Video, Sling TV)

Below, check out everything you need to know about Season 2 of “The Last of Us,” from where it’s streaming to when and what time new episodes will release.

When do new episodes of ‘The Last of Us’ come out?

“The Last of Us” Season 2 premieres tonight, April 13 at 9 p.m. ET. New episodes will continue to release weekly on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET.

How to watch ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2:

If you don’t have HBO through traditional cable, you’ll need a Max subscription to watch “The Last of Us.”

Max, which you can subscribe to directly or — our favorite way — via Prime Video, starts at $9.99/month with ads.

That’s not the only way to subscribe, though. Sling TV is among the best value for money among live tv streaming services thanks to some great offers. You’ll need Sling’s Blue plan with a Max add-on to watch HBO live.

And when you subscribe to Max through Sling, the money-saving never stops! You’ll get 50% off your first month, plus $5 off your bill every month after that.

‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 episode guide:

“The Last of Us” will have a shorter second season than the first; rather than nine episodes, it will have seven.

  • Episode 1: “Future Days” – April 13
  • Episode 2: April 20
  • Episode 3: April 27
  • Episode 4: May 4
  • Episode 5: May 11
  • Episodes 6: May 18
  • Episode 7: May 25

Who is in the cast of ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2?

As mentioned above, Pascal and Ramsey are reprising their main roles from Season 1. Gabriel Luna and Rutina Wesley will also reprise their roles of Tommy and Maria, respectively.

New cast members for Season 2 include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, Danny Ramirez, Jeffrey Wright, and Catherine O’Hara.
