“Novocaine” took the No. 1 spot at the box office on its debut in theaters Friday, earning $3.9 million, according to The Numbers.

The action comedy, which the Los Angeles Times called “brutal yet weightless,” stars Jack Quaid, the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, as a bank exec who can’t feel pain.

The Paramount film cost $18 million to produce, and is slated to take in $8 to $10 million this weekend.

“Black Bag” came in second, bagging $2.78 million on Friday, also its opening day.

The spy thriller, starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender, whom the New York Times said “play a glamorous couple of spies in this latest sleek collaboration,” is projected to rake in $10 to $15 million this weekend.

In third place was “Mickey 17″ which earned $2.2 million on Friday, its second in theaters.

The black comedy starring Robert Pattinson is slated to take in $8 to $9 million this weekend.

“Captain America: Brave New World,” which was in second last Friday, dropped down two spots to fourth, with sales of $1.5 million.
