But having a very large penis can also cause men to suffer self-esteem issues and mental distress stemming from rejection by women, a top sexual health nurse has claimed.
Oxford Online Pharmacy‘s Lorraine Grover said in her experience ‘so many people’ suffer relationship breakdown due to penis size — both too large, and too small.
This leads to a loss of confidence, she added: ‘Men [broken up with due to penis size] are often left questioning their worth and desirability.’
Ms Glover cited one viral mega-thread on Reddit entitled ‘Have you ever broken up with a man because of his penis? If so, why?’ as proof.
Several of the 15,000 response refer to large penis size, with one blaming an ex’s ‘mega penis’ for them partings ways.
Another added that size and her partner ‘only knowing one speed’ as the reason, and a third explained how they ‘couldn’t deal with the pain’ it brought her during sex.
A post that received 4,000 likes begins: ‘Once dated a guy that had a -mega- penis. No matter what we did, he hurt me.

‘Neither of us found the situation enjoying, so we decided to part ways.
Commenting on the post, another woman wrote: ‘I also dated a man who had a mega penis. We were never able to… needless to say we didn’t last. He has kids now, he found a mega vagina, I guess.’
In another thread, ‘Men of Reddit, has the size (too big or not big enough) of your d*** ever been the reason for an ended relationship?’ elicited similar responses.
One poster wrote: ‘Three relationships I have had ended due (at least in part) to this… because my slong [sic] was too long.
‘Saddest was when the woman I married said she enjoyed sex and then about 2 months into marriage admitted I was way to big and sex constantly hurt her.
‘Broke my heart, sex stopped, and much emotional pain later and other mental issues showing up ended the marriage in an ugly divorce.’
In a subreddit called r/bigd***problems men openly discuss common issues they face having large penises, one post details ’10 Big D*** Problems’, including self-esteem issues stemming from rejection from women.
It also lists a number of other downsides: ‘Women are just as shallow as men and will talk to your penis without bothering to make eye contact.

Ms Glover said: ‘It’s interesting to see so many people being so candid online — albeit anonymously — about how they have broken up someone/been broken up with due to penis size.
‘This only sounds cool to people with small penises because it never happens to them all the fucking time.
‘You can end up in sexual limbo sometimes. Either you’re the bad guy when you really get into it and hurt her, or you don’t fully enjoy yourself or sometimes don’t even have an orgasm because you’re trying so hard to hold back.’
The post goes on to list hot days being ‘a problem’ and laments that ‘jeans are rarely cut for such anatomical necessities so you have to buy [trousers] that are longer than you need so the inseam is lower’.
‘This can be incredibly damaging for the man who is broken up with as it triggers feelings of inadequacy, anxiety and stress — all of which can impact future relationships and lead to erectile dysfunction.
‘There is also a possibility that this could further exacerbate fear of rejection from future sexual partners or relationships.
She added: ‘It’s important to remember that confidence is not just about size – it’s about self-acceptance, communication and what makes intimacy fulfilling beyond penetration.’
According to recent research published in the British Journal of Urology International the average flaccid penis is 9.16 cm (3.61 inches) in length.

However the same research found a quarter of women had ended relationships due to a ‘mismatch’ between their their penis size preference and their partners actual size.
The average erect penis is 13.12 cm (5.16 inches) long, while the corresponding girth measurements are 9.31 cm (3.66 inches) for a flaccid penis and 11.66 cm (4.59 inches) for an erect one.
A recent study found that women preferred a long-term partner with a penis that was 6.3in (16cm) in length and 4.8in (12.2cm) in circumference.
They looked for something slightly larger in one of or ‘casual’ partners.
It also found that women believed men with very large penises were more likely to have sexually transmitted infections.

While one called his member ‘a gift from God’, others revealed they had been turned down for jobs, abused by strangers, and struggle to date because they are ‘fetishised’ by women because of their penis size.
One, referred to only as Matt, 39, he hadn’t been able to hold down a relationship as a result of his 10 and a half inch penis.
He explained: ‘Being well endowed gets you attention but not affection…if anything, it’s more of a handicap because it’s not something you can bring up.
‘If you bring it up, you’re a bit sleazy, but if you don’t bring it up, it brings complications.’

Offering tips to men struggling with mental health issues due to a large penis, Ms Glover said: ‘Moving into new sexual relationships, try and be open and honest with new sexual partners, and educate yourself and them on techniques which can make the experience more pleasurable.
‘For example, learning different positions, using lubrication and adjusting pace can improve comfort and pleasure for both parties.
‘It’s also crucial that men stop defining their self-worth based on the size of their penis.’
