A British woman has mysteriously been found dead in a Vietnamese villa as cops reportedly discovered several empty liquor bottles at the scene.

Police in the Quang Nam province were scrambled to the villa in Hoi An shortly after 11.15am on Boxing Day where they found the body of the woman, believed to be around 33-years-old.

A South African man was also discovered dead in a separate room.

Both individuals had registered for long-term temporary residence at the tourist villa from July 4 this year.

Vietnam News reports the woman was born in 1991 and was staying in room 101, while the man was born in 1988 and was staying in room 201.

Following the tragic incident, and amid investigations, police have now cordoned off the rooms as they launch probes into the mysterious deaths.

Quang Nam Provincial Police conducted an investigation at the scene and autopsies were also ordered.

Initial findings reportedly show no signs of scratches or external force on the bodies, but police did collect several empty bottles of liquor from the scene.

It comes after a British tourist died in Thailand after suffering a severe reaction to magic mushrooms.

The 25-year-old was enjoying a Christmas break with his girlfriend when he allegedly bought the hallucinogenic drug from a shop in Chiang Mai.

He reportedly had a horrific instant reaction to the mushrooms and died soon after.

Medics arrived at the luxury resort where he was staying and questioned his partner, who admitted they had bought the items over the counter from a nearby cannabis shop called The Glory Days.

Officers today raided the shop and arrested the owner on suspicion of selling category 5 narcotics.

Police allegedly found sacks containing 7kg of magic mushrooms in the store room, and said the death took place on December 20.

Police Major General Worapong Khamluea, Commander of the Investigation Division, said: ‘The tourist had been taking pictures at the Tha Pae Gate, a famous landmark, with his girlfriend then they went to a shop and bought magic mushrooms.

‘He took them back to their hotel room and consumed them. But 40 minutes later he … collapsed from the reaction to the substance.

‘Officers initially checked the store but found no mushrooms on the premises but discovered them in a storage room used by the owner.

‘Four suspects were arrested, including the owner and three employees.’

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: ‘We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Thailand and are in contact with the local authorities.’

Thailand legalised cannabis in 2022 causing an explosion in gaudy neon-lit dispensaries around the country.

But the poorly thought of legislation has seen a surge in mental illness, crime and the sale of other drugs through the stores.
