Nana Patekar has passed away at the age of 75 after being found unconscious in Goa.

Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar has passed away at the age of 75 in Goa, according to his son Malhar. The news was met with an outpouring of tributes and condolences from the film industry and beyond.

Patekar's distinctive on-screen presence and intense performances made him a household name across India. He won three National Film Awards for his work, cementing his status as one of the most accomplished actors in Indian cinema. His versatility was also evident in his ability to excel in both mainstream Bollywood films and Marathi language cinema.

Patekar's son has revealed that he was found unconscious at their home in Goa early on Thursday morning. Despite efforts to revive him, Patekar unfortunately did not survive. According to Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital in Goa, attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful after 45 minutes of continuous CPR.

The news of Patekar's passing has been met with widespread sadness and admiration for his unique talent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the actor, praising his versatility and outspoken personality. In a statement on social media, Modi described Patekar as an actor who would "remain etched in the memory of generations".

Patekar's acting career was marked by a diverse range of memorable roles in numerous films throughout the 1990s. His performances showcased his impressive depth and mastery over his craft as an actor.

A notable example of his talent is his portrayal of Major Chauhan in Prahaar, where he also demonstrated his skills as a director. Additionally, his characters in Tirangaa and Krantiveer earned him widespread acclaim for their patriotic and powerful portrayals.

In a departure from his typical loud characters, Patekar delivered an outstanding performance in Khamoshi as a character who was deaf and mute, showcasing his versatility as an actor. This role further solidified his reputation as a talented performer capable of taking on diverse and complex characters.

Patekar's collaboration with director Prakash Jha on Rajneeti in 2010 added another layer to his acting career, with his portrayal of a cunning politician receiving praise for its perfection. His ability to effortlessly transition between different roles and genres was a hallmark of his long-standing career in the industry.

His numerous awards, including three national awards for Parinda, Krantiveer, and Agni Sakshi, serve as a testament to Patekar's wide-ranging and accomplished career as an actor, director, and writer.

Patekar's prolific career extended beyond film to theatre, where he showcased his talents in numerous productions, including Purush and Hamidabai Chi Kothi, which remain some of his most notable works.

Throughout his professional life, Patekar remained committed to theatre, a testament to his dedication to the craft. His success on screen did not distract him from pursuing his passion for live performance, where he continued to excel as an actor and director.

Patekar was also known for his outspoken views on social issues, particularly those affecting farmers, which were close to his heart. He was unafraid to speak truth to power, often publicly criticising government ministers and their policies without hesitation or apology.

His commitment to social causes extended beyond rhetoric, as he co-founded the Naam Foundation in 2015 with Makarand Anaspure, working towards farmer welfare and water conservation initiatives in Maharashtra.
