# Venture Capital Firm Endeavor Catalyst Secures $320 Million for Fifth Fund

Endeavor Catalyst has secured $320 million for its fifth fund, bringing its total assets under management to more than $850 million.

Endeavor Catalyst, a venture capital firm focused on supporting founders outside major tech hubs, has secured $320 million for its fifth fund, bringing its total assets under management to more than $850 million. This significant raise is a boost for entrepreneurs based in regions beyond Silicon Valley, where many funds are concentrated.

As the venture arm of Endeavor, a New York-based nonprofit organization, Endeavor Catalyst has spent three decades championing innovation and entrepreneurship outside traditional tech centers. The firm's unique approach emphasizes supporting founders in underserved markets, which it refers to as "elsewhere" in its marketing materials.

At the helm of Endeavor Catalyst are managing partner Allen Taylor, a 20-year veteran of the organization, and managing director Jackie Carmel, who joined the firm 12 years ago. Together with their 16-person team, they oversee investment decisions for the fund, which is officially backed by Endeavor itself. This arrangement means that half of the fund's profits are reinvested in supporting the next generation of founders.

The bar for entry into Endeavor Catalyst's network is high, requiring entrepreneurs to demonstrate significant potential and promise. Last year alone, the organization screened over 10,000 candidates before selecting just 88 to join its ranks. Today, the network comprises more than 3,100 entrepreneurs from over 50 countries worldwide.

Endeavor Catalyst's investment strategy allows it to join rounds led by other institutional investors when a company raises at least $5 million, on the same terms as the lead investor. This means that Endeavor Catalyst can invest alongside other VCs in promising startups.

The team plans to make 40 to 50 investments annually with its new fund, investing in up to 150 companies over the next few years. This ambitious goal reflects the growing demand for venture capital and the need for more resources to support entrepreneurs worldwide.

Endeavor Catalyst has a strong track record of backing successful startups, having invested in 437 companies across 44 markets through its five funds. Eighty-three of these companies are now valued at over $1 billion, with 39 exits and 11 IPOs to date.

The diverse portfolio of Endeavor Catalyst continues to expand, encompassing a range of innovative companies across various geographies. New York-based Reflection AI, founded by two former Google DeepMind researchers, is valued at $25 billion, while Checkout.com, led by a Swiss entrepreneur, holds a valuation of $12 billion following last year's assessment.

The African payments infrastructure company Flutterwave has seen its value soar to $3.2 billion this summer, cementing its position as a key player in the continent's digital economy. Meanwhile, AI coding startup Replit, co-founded by Palestinian-Jordanian Amjad Masad, achieved a valuation of $9 billion earlier this year.

Endeavor Catalyst's connections run deep, with its board comprising influential figures such as Reid Hoffman and Nick Beim, a seasoned VC with 25 years of experience at Matrix Partners and Venrock. Edgar Bronfman Jr., the former head of Warner Music and Seagram, chairs Endeavor's board, underscoring the organization's reach into the world of entertainment and finance.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has maintained a close relationship with Endeavor, having attended Harvard alongside Rottenberg. During a recent visit to San Francisco, organized by Endeavor, Mitsotakis met with tech founders and Greek expatriates in the Bay Area.

The new fund boasts an impressive 400 limited partners, including notable figures like Reid Hoffman, Bill Ackman, and the Dutch investment group Prosus. Approximately 30% of these backers are Endeavor's own founders, such as Nubank, Revolut, and Checkout.com's leaders, indicating a strong sense of community and shared vision among the organization's stakeholders.

Endeavor Catalyst's investments are heavily concentrated outside of the US, with approximately 90% of its venture arm's investments being made abroad. This is a significant trend within the organization, which has local teams and mentors in dozens of countries around the world.

The fastest-growing region for Endeavor Catalyst is Europe, where it made 12 new investments in the first half of this year alone, compared to 14 investments across all of last year. Despite this growth, Latin America remains the largest market for the organization.

Repeat founders are increasingly playing a significant role in Endeavor Catalyst's investment strategy. Roughly 14% of its fourth fund went to companies founded by individuals who had previously backed Endeavor startups at the seed or Series A stage.

This trend is expected to continue, with the team predicting that around 20% of the new fund will go towards second-time founders. This shift suggests a growing emphasis on supporting entrepreneurs who have already demonstrated success in the startup ecosystem.

The organization's global reach and focus on repeat founders set it apart from other venture capital firms, which may be overly concentrated in San Francisco or other major hubs.

Endeavor Catalyst has secured a significant $320 million fund to invest in founders outside of San Francisco's tech hub, where many venture capital firms are concentrated.

The organization's global reach and focus on repeat founders set it apart from other venture capital firms, which may be overly focused on major hubs. This approach allows Endeavor Catalyst to tap into emerging markets and support entrepreneurs who might otherwise struggle to secure funding in more saturated regions. By doing so, the firm aims to foster innovation beyond traditional tech hotspots.
