# Ukraine Ceasefire Ends, Russian Forces Resume Operations

A humanitarian ceasefire in Ukraine's Kherson region has come to an end, allowing Russian forces to resume operations in the area. The truce had been in place since last week, permitting civilians to evacuate from the occupied city of Oleshky.

The ceasefire was set to expire at 22:59 Ukrainian time (21:00 GMT) on Sunday night, and fighting has indeed resumed elsewhere in the region. This development comes as Ukraine's air alert system was compromised, issuing a warning about a possible nuclear threat over Kyiv.

Ukraine's air force reported that its alarm application had likely been hacked, prompting a message to reassure citizens of no radiation danger. The alert was issued despite no actual risk from nuclear attack, and residents were advised to remain calm and follow updates from the air force channel.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Russia had targeted energy infrastructure in four regions overnight on Saturday. This move has left hundreds of thousands of homes without power, although some connections have been restored since then.

The strikes also resulted in further loss of life, with two people killed in the Vinnytsia region, including a 13-year-old girl. The situation remains volatile, with ongoing efforts to repair damaged energy infrastructure and restore power to affected areas.

Emergency power cuts have become a common occurrence across Ukraine due to frequent attacks on energy infrastructure. The capital city of Kyiv is not immune to these disruptions, with electricity often cut off for most of the day and water supplies also severely impacted.

President Zelensky has highlighted the intense nature of recent Russian strikes, stating that they have been "extremely high" over the past week. He believes Russia is attempting to maximize its advantage by targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which is already strained due to a shortage of ballistic missile interceptors.

The President emphasized the urgent need for Patriot missiles, which he claims are the only effective means of downing Russia's deadly ballistic missiles. He has been in communication with international partners, including the US and Europe, daily, requesting immediate aid in the form of these critical defense systems.

A temporary ceasefire was brokered in the Kherson region, initially confined to the city of Oleshky before being expanded across the wider area. This pause in hostilities, facilitated by US First Lady Melania Trump and Pope Leo, aimed to provide a brief respite from the ongoing conflict.

The humanitarian crisis in Oleshky deepened as residents struggled to cope with severe shortages of food, water, and electricity.

Evacuees who finally escaped the besieged city were reunited with their loved ones in emotional scenes that brought tears to the eyes of many. The reunions took place after a rare ceasefire allowed for evacuations from Oleshky, where thousands had been trapped for months.

The evacuation route was treacherous, taking evacuees through Russian-occupied territory before they flew to Belarus and were driven across Ukraine's northern border; among them was a 94-year-old and an infant just one year old.
