# Saudi-led coalition launches military operation against Houthi missile facilities in Yemen

The operation targeted sources of threat to regional security, including ballistic missile capabilities and supply lines.

The Saudi-led coalition has launched a military operation against Houthi missile facilities in Yemen, targeting sources of threat to regional security. The operation was carried out to neutralise ballistic missile capabilities and disrupt supply lines between areas under Houthi control.

According to coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki, four ballistic missile launchers were destroyed along with five tunnels used by the Houthis for storing missiles. Additionally, a missile depot was attacked as part of the operation, which focused on cutting off Houthi militia supply lines and disrupting their military activities.

The operation also targeted Houthi fortifications, gatherings of their members, and military equipment along the front lines in Yemen. This move comes after a recent wave of strikes by the Houthis against Saudi airports and other infrastructure.

In response to these attacks, the Saudi-led coalition has taken steps to protect its interests and security. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to counter Houthi aggression and maintain stability in the region.

The escalation in fighting in Yemen's war has led to increased tensions between the warring parties, with the Houthis launching strikes against Saudi targets. A recent attack on Riyadh's King Khalid international airport resulted in significant loss of life and injuries, highlighting the dangers posed by Houthi aggression.

The temporary closure of King Khalid international airport in Riyadh had far-reaching consequences for thousands of passengers whose travel plans were disrupted by the sudden shutdown.

Airport operations resumed on Sunday after a brief halt, but not before the Houthis issued a warning to potential travelers, cautioning them against using the facility, which they described as a "military target.

The Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Saree, took to social media on Monday to claim responsibility for the attack on the airport, stating that it had been struck with precision by a ballistic missile. This assertion contradicts earlier reports of Saudi air defenses intercepting and destroying the missile.

In addition to targeting Riyadh's airport, the Houthis also claimed to have launched drone attacks on oil pumping stations in Saudi Arabia, according to Saree's statement on social media. The Houthi military spokesman also boasted of striking enemy forces and weapons depots in Yemen with ballistic missiles.

The latest escalation marks a significant increase in tensions between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, which has been attempting to restore the internationally recognized government in Sanaa since 2015.

Yemen's government forces have launched a counteroffensive to recapture territory held by the Houthis, as part of Operation Yemen Dawn". The operation is aimed at reversing gains made by the Houthi rebels in recent years.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and discussed the deployment of a key air defence system. Mitsotakis agreed to keep the Patriot system, which was deployed to Saudi Arabia in 2021, in place to protect energy infrastructure along the Red Sea coast. The decision is seen as a show of support for Saudi Arabia's efforts to counter Houthi missile attacks.

The Saudi-led military coalition reported intercepting at least 10 ballistic missiles on Sunday. Two people were injured by falling debris, and several buildings and vehicles suffered damage in southern areas of the kingdom. Images released by the official press agency showed significant damage to a building, with exposed metal rods and shattered windows.

Damage from the intercepted missiles was widespread, with shards of glass scattered across roads and pavement. The latest escalation marks a significant increase in tensions between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, which has been attempting to restore the internationally recognized government in Sanaa since 2015.
