# Manchester City Lose 4-2 to Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain won 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, dealing a crushing blow to Manchester City's Champions League hopes.

Paris Saint-Germain dealt a crushing blow to Manchester City's Champions League hopes as they won 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. The victory marked a difficult night for City, who were still reeling from last month's guilty verdict in the Premier League financial rules scandal.

The European champions made a blistering start, scoring three times inside the opening 35 minutes through Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha. These early goals gave PSG a commanding lead, but City showed their resilience by storming back in the second half.

City's resurgence was led by Erling Haaland, who scored twice on either side of Maghnes Akliouche's strike. This brief spark of hope for City was short-lived, as it only managed to temporarily reduce PSG's lead to one goal.

The 10-time English champions are now facing a daunting task in their bid to avoid severe sanctions from the Premier League. An independent commission last month found City guilty on over 100 charges of financial impropriety, and they must appeal this ruling if they hope to escape punishment.

Former City manager Pep Guardiola was present at the Etihad Stadium for the first time since his departure in May, showing solidarity with the club's embattled chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and CEO Ferran Soriano.

The pre-match atmosphere at the Etihad Stadium was electric, but City's attempts to rally their fans with a nostalgic video tribute were somewhat overshadowed by the gravity of the situation.

A giant banner held aloft by supporters behind one end of the stadium proclaimed "I'm City till I die", a defiant message that seemed to belie the uncertainty and controversy swirling around the club.

Yet, as it often does, reality quickly intruded on the pre-match hype. PSG's blistering first 45 minutes left City reeling, with the visitors dominating possession and creating a string of scoring opportunities.

The decision by Luis Enrique to leave Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the bench proved prescient, as it allowed Vitinha to start wide on the left and wreak havoc on City's defense.

The second half saw Maresca make three substitutions in an effort to turn the game around for Manchester City, but they were unable to overcome the deficit that had grown by halftime.

The missed opportunities by Antoine Semenyo and Enzo Fernandez proved costly as Haaland capitalized on a scoring chance with a header from Iliman Ndiaye's cross. Later, Akliouche's effort was tipped onto the goal line by Donnarumma, but the rebound looped high into the net.

The late stages of the game saw Haaland score his second goal and Ferran Torres miss a penalty, which would have given City a fifth goal in the match, while Nuno Mendes made an impressive clearance off his own line.
