# Israeli forces launch raids across occupied West Bank detaining dozens of Palestinians

A series of military operations targeted towns in the northern West Bank, including Nablus and Jenin, following a statement from the Israeli military confirming that two Palestinian gunmen had been killed in an attack near the settlement of Telem.

Israeli forces launched a series of raids across the occupied West Bank, detaining dozens of Palestinians just hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a full closure of the territory in response to an attack that left two Israeli soldiers dead.

The military operations targeted at least 15 towns in the northern West Bank, with Al Jazeera correspondents reporting on the ground. The raids took place in several key cities and towns, including Nablus, Jenin, Tubas, and Qalqilya.

Israeli forces entered Nablus, carrying out arrests and raiding Palestinian homes in the villages of Jalud and Qaryut. Arrests were also reported in Arrabeh and Burqin, both located near Jenin, while Israeli troops entered Tubas and the nearby town of Aqqaba.

In Hebron, a three-storey building was demolished by Israeli bulldozers, with families given just five minutes to collect their belongings. The authorities have also ordered hundreds of Palestinian families in the Ein Deir Bahha area of Hebron and its surroundings to evacuate their homes under threat of force.

Israeli troops have surrounded the home of one suspect linked to a recent shooting attack in Hebron, where two Israeli soldiers were killed. The raid is part of an ongoing operation that has seen forces sweep through various areas across the West Bank. In addition to Hebron, other locations are being targeted by Israeli forces in what they describe as a multi-day operation.

Further east, Jericho and the nearby Aqabat Jabr refugee camp have been entered by Israeli forces, adding to the growing number of areas under military control. The lockdown imposed on the West Bank is expected to severely restrict movement for millions of Palestinians, with nearly 1,000 checkpoints and gates set to be closed.

The order to implement this lockdown was given by Netanyahu on Friday, shortly after a statement from the Israeli military confirmed that two Palestinian gunmen had been killed in an attack near the settlement of Telem. According to reports, at least three Israeli soldiers were injured alongside the two who lost their lives.

The timing of these events is significant, as they coincide with heightened tensions across the West Bank. The rising aggression has seen violent incidents escalate, including attacks on Palestinian olive harvesters ahead of Israel's upcoming elections on Tuesday.

Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has called for full control of the West Bank, a move that echoes the Israeli government's efforts to expand settlements in the area.

The closure measures have effectively turned cities and villages into isolated "small prisons", according to Mustafa Barghouti, secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative. Checkpoints and gates restrict access to essential services like healthcare, economy, and education. This collective punishment is likely to escalate tensions further.
