# Gladiator II Stuntman Sues Production Company Over On-Set Accident

A British stuntman and actor is suing August Street Films alleging severe burns and permanent scarring during a filming incident in 2023.

A British stuntman and actor is taking legal action against one of the production companies behind Gladiator II, alleging that he suffered severe burns and permanent scarring during a filming incident in 2023.

The accident occurred while Edward Sarsfield was working on a scene depicting a burning ship, with a gas line used for special effects exploding and causing massive flames to engulf his costume. According to Sarsfield's claim, the fire covered about 15% of his body, including his face, arms, and hands. He described the injuries as "excruciating".

Sarsfield was part of a film crew in Morocco at the time, working on a scene where a coastal castle was under siege from an approaching ship. His role involved playing a dead soldier lying on the port side of the vessel, which had been set ablaze using gas-powered flame bars to create the illusion.

The stuntman's claim against August Street Films alleges that he suffered severe burns and permanent scarring as a result of the incident. Documents filed at London's High Court detail the events surrounding the accident and Sarsfield's subsequent injuries.

August Street Films has acknowledged liability for the accident, but disputes some aspects of Sarsfield's claims regarding his alleged injuries and requested damages of £200,000. The company is currently defending itself against the lawsuit, which is part of a larger controversy surrounding the production of Gladiator II.

The stuntman's claims describe a harrowing experience on set, where he was positioned near a gas line that suddenly exploded.

He witnessed towering flames and felt intense heat as his costume caught fire, causing him to panic and flee from the inferno.

As he ran away from the explosion, his colleagues threw water on him to help extinguish the flames, but not before strips of skin had peeled off his arms.

The legal claim alleges that the stuntman suffered severe injuries, including flash burns covering 15% of his body, as well as damage to both knees and his right wrist.

He was airlifted to a hospital in Marrakesh for treatment, where he remained in agony due to limited medical facilities.

The studio behind the film has confirmed that several people were hurt in the incident.

A spokesperson for the company stated that an accident occurred during a planned stunt sequence, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to crew members. The safety and medical teams on set responded quickly to provide necessary care, and those affected are currently receiving treatment. They are reported to be in stable condition.

The studio has emphasized its commitment to the well-being of cast and crew members, with strict health and safety procedures in place for all productions.
